Xergy Membrane

The Xergy DURION™ Anion Exchange Membranes (previously known as Xion™ Anion Exchange Membranes) are composite AEMs that use the Orion Polymer’s TM1 resin and have an ion exchange capacity that is in the range of 2.0 – 2.3 mequiv/g. DURION™ membranes offer excellent mechanical strength and stability to a wide variety of chemistries. NREL found DURION™ and Orion’s next gen AEM to be the top two most durable anion exchange membranes (AEMs), demonstrating excellent durability and lifetime based on NREL’s blind study, conducted in October 2019.  AEMs based on Orion’s TM1 resin can be operated at temperatures of up to 80°C in 1M KOH for more than 1000 hours.  The degradation was <0.5% in conductivity loss and IEC loss after 1000 hours of operation at high temperature. Xergy currently produces membrane sheets in 5, 10, 20, and 30µm thicknesses and 2″x2″, 4″x4″ and 6″x6″ sizes. Since all of these membrane products are mechanically reinforced, they are ideally suited for un-pressurized or pressurized anion exchange membrane fuel cells (with or without alkaline electrolyte), alkaline fuel cells (with or without alkaline electrolyte), alkaline proton pumps, alkaline oxygen concentrators, alkaline hypoxia, and alkaline batteries or any other neutral to alkaline electrochemical devices.  Gaseous or liquid reactants can be used without any issue.

The Xergy Xion™ Proton Exchange Membranes are composite PEMs (also known as reinforced or mechanically reinforced membranes) that use the 3M Dyneion™ resin and can be purchased with an equivalent weight (EW) of 725 or 800. They are stable under acidic and neutral conditions. All Xion™ membranes have high selectivity, high chemical resistance, and durability.  Currently, we are supplying the reinforced Xion™ Proton Exchange Membranes with the following thicknesses: 5 micrometers, 10 micrometers, 20 micrometers, 30 micrometers, and 50 micrometers.  Since all of these membrane products are mechanically reinforced, they are ideally suited for un-pressurized or pressurized proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, PEM electrolyzers, PEM proton pumps, PEM oxygen concentrators, PEM hypoxia, batteries, or any other acidic to neutral electrochemical devices.  Gaseous or liquid reactants can be used without any issue.
